For Democrats: Ignore Trump - Back To Basics

Category: Donald Trump

by Dave Mindeman

Although Donald Trump is, to my estimation, the absolute worst President we have ever had, Democrats should not focus on him when it comes to their campaigns.

The Minnesota Republican Party who embraced Marco Rubio during the primaries, is now a full throated Trump megaphone. The candidates have left no distance. The Party is the MN Trump Party.

And there is a distinction. Trump and Republicanism have divided. Traditional Republican hardcore positions seem to have been thrown out the window. Let me give you the list:

1) Free trade
2) Reducing deficits
3) Russia as an adversary
4) NATO support
5) North American unity
6) World engagement
7) Never negotiate with dictators

and others.

Several conservative pundits (George Will, Steve Schmidt, Bill Kristol) have actually called for their readers to vote Democratic and take the opportunity to rebuild the Republican Party. The current party does not resemble what they remember as theirs.

But what will be the consequence? Here in Minnesota, that is an unknown. The Trump economic tariff policy is hurting Minnesota's agricultural industry. His destruction of the ACA is putting pressure on the Minnesota Health Care Industry. Our Fortune 500 companies have too much uncertainty in their global efforts ...and it is putting a damper on their growth. And his tax cut bill and policies have put MN conformity at risk as well as putting the nation into another deficit spiral.

And yet, Trump continues to gain followers. It is like the lemming death march - the cliff is looming on the horizon, but they dutifully embrace every tweet and misspelled word.

When will the wake up call occur? The mounting unforced errors of this administration has exceeded any rational examination of credibility. The scandals and the policy reversals, caging children for God's sake....what will it take to realize the hole that we keep digging is swallowing us up.

Democrats have to stop trying to explain this. They need to focus on their core issues again. Let the Trump train go through the station and let's concentrate about what we can do to minimize the damage going forward.

Get back to health care, the environment, education, and support for labor. These are the core values of Democrats. These are the things that need our attention.

The embrace of Trumpism is unexplainable. It is a very tenuous link to the Republican Party as a whole - but Democrats are not going to be able to sever that link; only Republicans themselves can fix that. And the first step which is realizing there is a problem still seems far away.

So Democrats, get back to basics.

Headline: Trump says he gave North Korea's Kim his direct number

Trump: Hello?

Kim: Hello Big Donnie. It's me Kim.

Trump: Well, hi, Lego Man, how goes the grind.

Kim: Oh, just doing my thing. Arrested a few people. Executed some deserters. Expanded my gulags. Played some buckets with Rodman. And made everyone watch me eat a seven course meal on State TV.

Trump: Sounds like a full day. I love the way everyone pays so much attention to what you do. They really, really love you.

Kim: Hey, Donnie boy, I expect nothing less. I get their loyalty -or else.

Trump: That's what I like about you Short Round. You stay on point. Wish I didn't have to cow tow to the free media. They can mess up my narrative really bad. Say, you plan to have any military parades soon? I'd sure like to be there. Love the hardware.

Kim: Sure Donnie, my man. I can conjure up some big equipment shows anytime. My army does a mean goose step. Love to have you as my guest.

Trump: Great, ButterBall, let's have our people get that arranged. Oh, by the way, how's that nuke dismantling coming?

Kim: Still getting the inventory together. Might take a few months, maybe years, to get that on paper. But we are working on it. I'll keep you informed.

Trump: Thanks, Stuffing and Gravy, you know how persnickety my deep state can be about getting results. You'd never guess that I just prevented nuclear war.

Kim: Yeah, I get it. My generals got all hot under the collar when our nuclear test site collapsed. Set us back pretty good. But I told them that you would be willing to stall things out until we get back in the groove. I appreciate that you trust me on these things. Nobody else ever has taken my word for things before. But you understand the big lie. We can communicate.

Trump: Yeah, Bubble Boy, we are kindred spirits. Nobody gets my approach here at home either. But you know how this works. It's the show that counts. Keep it superficial and everybody wins......Well, sorry, got to get back to imprisoning kids at the border. Never seems to end down there. But don't be a stranger. You can call me anytime.

Kim: Thanks, Big Donnie, I appreciate that very much. Say hi to Mikey for me. He still owes me for that backgammon game. Bye for now.

Timeline: Russia/Trump Conspiracy

Category: Donald Trump

by Dave Mindeman

Politifact has a timeline of how events involving Trump and Russia unfold. Looking at all of it in one place is kind of chilling....

you can find the full time-line here.

The timing of things is most curious. For instance, it was March of 2016 that John Podesta's e-mails were hacked...but they were not released until an hour after the Access Hollywood tape became public, October 7, 2016.

Everything keeps building as info is gathered - and there had to be an American plan to coordinate with the Russian plan.

Besides the timeline, let me add these dates that happened earlier.

November of 2012, shortly after Obama's re-election, Trump applies for a trademark on "Make America Great Again" - knowing trademark paper work is a lengthy process.

In 2013, Trump retweets several fake accounts that "encourage" him to run for President.

Also in November 9, 2013 - Trump holds the Miss Universe pageant in Moscow.

November 12, 2013 - Moscow newspaper says Trump planning skyscraper in Moscow - which Trump retweets.

2014 - Russia sends operatives into America to gather information on our election process and our electorate.

May 27th, 2015 - Trump gets final approval on his trademark.

June 16th, 2015 - Trump announces for President.

Tell me that these things are NOT part of a Russian conspiracy with Trump as the focal point.

It begs credulity to think these things are not dots being connected.
